Baker Botts Advises JERA on $1.5 Billion Acquisition of Haynesville Shale Assets
HOUSTON – October 23, 2025 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, served as legal counsel to JERA Co. Inc. (“JERA”), Japan's largest power generation company, in its $1.5 billion acquisition through subsidiary JERA Americas Inc. of the South Mansfield upstream asset located in western Louisiana's Haynesville Shale basin from Williams and GEP Haynesville II, LLC.
The transaction includes an upfront investment of $1.5 billion with a future investment plan to increase production from current levels of more than 500 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) to 1 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bscfd). The acquired asset includes producing wells, 200 undeveloped locations, and established gathering, treating and transport infrastructure.
Strategically located near Gulf Coast LNG export facilities and data center hubs, the Haynesville asset provides JERA with significant upstream supply to support its position as one of the world’s largest LNG buyers. The acquisition strengthens JERA’s global LNG value chain and supports growing power demand driven by AI and data center expansion.
JERA’s press release can be found here.
