Retention

Attracting diverse talent to the firm is only the beginning of the story at Baker Botts. We have taken proactive steps to ensure the retention of diverse talent and to foster an organizational culture that supports and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. A sample of those efforts are listed below:

  • Implementing policy providing “billable credit” to lawyers for meaningful contributions in DEI
  • Supporting diverse and women lawyer participation in bar associations and organizations dedicating to the professional advancement of lawyers from all backgrounds
  • Ongoing monitoring of hiring and attrition statistics, in addition to hours billed by minority associates to ensure fair and equitable work allocation
  • Appointing Staff and Associate Liaisons to the Diversity and Inclusion Committee whose primary role is to provide feedback on matters impacting associate and staff colleagues
  • Developing key diversity metrics to measure impact of diversity initiatives, identify risk areas, and assign accountability
  • Incorporating DEI qualitative and quantitative feedback into the partner annual planning process including capturing action steps demonstrating purposeful investment in DEI
  • Offering professional development trainings for all attorneys and ongoing bias and anti-discrimination training to all lawyers and staff to promote a culture of inclusion and belonging
  • Diversity in Action Sponsorship Program for Mid/Senior Level Associates
