Baker Botts Deepens Houston Corporate Capabilities with Three Special Counsel Hires

Release

HOUSTON, September 2, 2026 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, has added Paul Robe, Tiana Cherry, and David Wilson as Special Counsel in Houston, strengthening its Corporate department and adding highly credentialed lawyers in areas of growing client demand.

Cherry and Robe represent publicly traded companies, financial institutions, underwriters, and private equity sponsors in capital markets transactions and securities matters. Wilson works with private fund sponsors on the formation, structuring, and operation of investment funds. Together, they strengthen the firm’s expanding corporate platform, providing clients with strategic counsel across pivotal points of corporate growth, from formation, investment structuring, and capital raising to sophisticated strategic growth transactions and long-term governance and compliance obligations.

The additions come during a period of significant demand for the Firm's transactional experience. Baker Botts advised on $32 billion in M&A transactions across industries in the first half of 2026, alongside major public and private capital markets work.

Robe represents public and private companies, financial institutions, and underwriters in debt and equity offerings valued in the billions of dollars. His practice also covers SEC reporting, stock exchange requirements, corporate governance, and strategic transactions for public companies. Robe previously practiced at Latham & Watkins in Houston.

Cherry brings domestic and cross-border capital markets experience developed in London and New York. She represents issuers, underwriters, and private equity sponsors in public and private debt and equity offerings and counsels clients on securities regulation, stock exchange requirements, and corporate governance. Before joining Baker Botts, Cherry practiced at Fried Frank.

Wilson arrives from Simpson Thacher, where he worked with private fund sponsors throughout the fund lifecycle, including the formation and operation of private equity funds, management companies, and related investment vehicles. His experience includes funds with multibillion-dollar commitments, as well as investor negotiations, co-investments, and secondary transactions.

We are attracting exceptional lawyers who see the quality of our work and the opportunity to build consequential careers at Baker Botts, said Managing Partner Danny David. Paul, Tiana, and David have already developed sophisticated practices in areas that matter greatly to our clients, and they add to an impressive pipeline of talent that will help lead this Firm for years to come.

Paul, Tiana, and David bring deep experience across complementary areas of our Corporate practice, said Corporate Department Chair Samantha Crispin. “They understand the financial, transactional, and regulatory forces driving today’s market, and they are equipped to provide the strategic advice and execution capabilities our clients rely on.”

The hires are part of a broader investment in mid-level associate and special counsel talent. Baker Botts has added more lawyers at those levels to date in 2026 than during all of 2025 as deal activity creates demand across Corporate and the practices supporting complex transactions. The Firm continues to recruit talent at every career stage, including entry-level lawyers and lateral partners.
