DALLAS, July 1, 2026 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, won a trade secrets judgment that delivered more than $213 million to Computer Sciences Corporation (“CSC”) after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear Tata Consultancy Services’ (“Tata”) appeal.

The Supreme Court’s June 15, 2026 denial left in place lower-court rulings that found Tata willfully and maliciously misappropriated CSC trade secrets. CSC is a wholly owned subsidiary of DXC Technology Company.

CSC alleged that Tata misappropriated its trade secrets to develop a competing insurance policy administration system and win business, including a $2.6 billion Transamerica contract. CSC engaged Baker Botts to step in as lead counsel before discovery began.

After a two-week trial in November 2023 involving two dozen witnesses, an advisory jury found that Tata willfully and maliciously misappropriated CSC’s trade secrets and awarded CSC $210 million. The district court agreed with the advisory jury’s liability finding, reduced the award to approximately $168 million, added prejudgment interest, awarded CSC its attorneys’ fees and costs, and entered a permanent injunction.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit affirmed Tata’s liability and the damages award, including unjust enrichment damages based on avoided research-and-design costs and exemplary damages, while narrowing aspects of the injunction. The U.S. Supreme Court recently denied Tata’s petition for a writ of certiorari.
