HOUSTON, February 2, 2026 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, has added Cody Carper as a partner in its Houston office, where he will serve as co-chair of the Oil and Gas Practice, strengthening the firm's capabilities in upstream and midstream oil and gas transactions driven by private equity investment.

Carper joins from Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where he led complex energy transactions for private equity sponsors and management teams, as well as public and private oil and gas companies. His practice focuses on acquisitions and divestitures of upstream and midstream assets, energy financings, equity joint ventures, and drilling partnerships. He also previously served as assistant general counsel at Sabine Oil & Gas, where he handled operational issues across land, marketing, and drilling, giving him firsthand fluency in the complexities of billion-dollar transactions.

His work spans the deal spectrum, representing clients in transactions valued at more than $10 billion across major U.S. shale plays, including upstream M&A, joint ventures, drilling partnerships, and minerals and royalties transactions throughout the Haynesville, Permian, and STACK formations.
