Baker Botts Partner Bill Kroger Elected to The Philosophical Society of Texas
HOUSTON, TX, October 31, 2024 - Baker Botts L.L.P., is pleased to announce that Partner Bill Kroger has been elected to The Philosophical Society of Texas.
The Philosophical Society of Texas recognizes Bill’s “significant contributions to our state; devotion to its past, present and future; and thoughtful interest in the profound questions of life.”
The Philosophical Society of Texas was founded in 1837 by, among others, Sam Houston, Mirabeau Lamar, Thomas J. Rusk, and William Fairfax Gray. Gray was the father of Peter W. Gray, the founder of Baker Botts.
The purpose of the Society was, as it remains today, the collection and diffusion of knowledge. The Society achieves its mission through holding an Annual Meeting on a relevant and timely topic; the distribution of the meeting’s Proceedings to college and university libraries; annual Book Prizes for fiction, nonfiction, and poetry; and facilitating opportunities for its diverse, accomplished members to interact.
Membership in the Society is limited to 250 active citizens of Texas. Past members include Dwight Eisenhower, Lyndon Johnson, Admiral Charles Nimitz, Ima Hogg, Sam Rayburn, Dr. Michael DeBakey, Oveta Culp Hobby, and the folklorist John Lomax.
Baker Botts has a long history of membership in The Philosophical Society of Texas. Bill joins partner Tom Phillips, retired partner Rufus Cormier, and several firm alumni including Texas Supreme Court Justices Jane Bland and Evan Young. Six of the 23 attorneys who have been president of the Society, since it was reconstituted in 1937 were an attorney at Baker Botts. No other firm has been associated with more than one president.
Bill will be inducted at The Society dinner on February 21, 2025 on Padre Island.
