Keri Brown Elected to Houston Bar Association’s Board of Directors
HOUSTON – May 5, 2022 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, is pleased to announce that Keri Brown, a tax partner and the firm’s Partner-in-Charge of Corporate Social Responsibility, has been elected to the Houston Bar Association’s Board of Directors for a two-year term.
A trusted advisor to some of the nation’s most prominent individuals, Brown assists her clients on complex federal estate, gift and income tax litigation and controversy matters, including disputes and litigation with the Department of Justice and the Internal Revenue Service.
As Baker Botts’ firmwide Partner-in-Charge of Corporate Social Responsibility, she advances the firm’s commitment to its communities by allocating the firm’s people and financial resources to support communities, overseeing corporate citizenship, managing the firm’s pro bono efforts, and aligning the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts with those of its clients.
In 2021, Brown was recognized as a “Woman Who Means Business” by the Houston Business Journal for her significant business accomplishments, as well as her commitment to community service.
In 2020, Brown led a firmwide team of lawyers in creating a COVID-19 Community Resource Guide focused on the federal, state, and business response to the pandemic. Her work was featured in The American Lawyer, the Texas Lawbook, and The Houston Lawyer, and she was recognized by the Houston Chronicle as one of the “Heroes of the Front Line” in the battle against COVID-19. In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, her pro bono efforts were featured in the Wall Street Journal, ABA Journal, Texas Bar Journal, Texas Lawyer, Houston Business Journal, and The Houston Lawyer. The State Bar of Texas honored Brown with its 2018 Pro Bono Coordinator Award.
Established in 1870, the Houston Bar Association’s purpose was to maintain high standards in the legal profession and provide legal education for Harris County attorneys. Today, the HBA, one of the largest metropolitan bar associations in the nation, still adheres to those basic principles, but has expanded its goals to include public service and better access to legal services for all citizens in the Greater Houston area. Continuing Legal Education and professional development programs for attorneys are second to none. HBA members contribute over 45,000 volunteer hours to community service projects each year.
