Monica Hughes Smith represents companies in complex commercial matters, including consumer products class actions, intellectual property disputes, and shareholder and securities litigation. Monica has extensive experience arguing and drafting dispositive motions, taking and defending depositions, and managing large-scale discovery for her matters. Clients in the consumer products, technology, and energy industries rely on Monica's trial experience in a variety of forums, both federal and state.
Monica is also dedicated to her community. She currently serves on the Boards of the Dallas Young Lawyers Association and the Dallas Women Lawyers Association. At Baker Botts, she is passionate about the recruitment and mentoring of young lawyers, having served on the firm's Employment Committee and as a mentor and work coordinator for summer associates. Outside of the office, for the past six years, she has served as team captain of the Cycle for Survival team "Big D Bikers," raising thousands of dollars each year for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Monica is a Dallas native and graduate of the Hockaday School, where she has served on the Alumnae Association Board of Directors.
Following graduation from law school, Ms. Smith served as law clerk to the Honorable Priscilla R. Owen of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
