Monica Hughes Smith represents companies in complex commercial matters, including intellectual property disputes, securities class actions, and consumer products class actions. Monica has extensive experience drafting and arguing dispositive motions, taking and defending depositions, and managing electronic discovery for her matters. Monica's trial experience is also significant, with trials in a variety of forums, both federal and state. Monica has served clients in the technology, consumer products, energy, and healthcare industries.
Monica is also dedicated to her community. At Baker Botts, she is passionate about the recruitment and mentoring of young lawyers, serving on the firm's Employee Committee and as a mentor and work coordinator for summer associates. Outside of the office, for the past six years, she has served as team captain of the Cycle for Survival team "Big D Bikers," raising thousands of dollars each year for rare cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Monica is a Dallas native and graduate of the Hockaday School, where she has served on the Alumnae Association Board of Directors.
Following graduation from law school, Ms. Smith served as law clerk to the Honorable Priscilla R. Owen of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
