Overview

Sean Ching is a Special Counsel in our Corporate practice based in Singapore, with extensive experience advising on complex cross-border M&A transactions and joint ventures in the Asia-Pacific region across various sectors including telecommunications, financial services, insurance and real estate.

He frequently advises on trans-Pacific and trans-Indian Ocean digital infrastructure projects including submarine telecommunications cable transactions and associated infrastructure projects.

Sean has also acted as the lead technology counsel on significant digital bond issuances in Hong Kong.

  • Meta (formerly Facebook) on the establishment or restructure of a number of joint ventures to build, own and operate trans-Pacific and intra-Asia telecoms networks (including in respect of Singapore, India, Indonesia, the U.S. and several other Asian jurisdictions)
  • Axiata Group Berhad and Dialog Axiata Plc on merging its Sri Lanka telecommunication operations with Bharti Airtel Limited in an equity swap deal to create the largest telecoms business in Sri Lanka and the establishment of a new Mobile Telecoms Joint Venture in Sri Lanka between Axiata and Bharti
  • CK Hutchison on the TMT aspect of its €10 billion sale of its portfolio of telecommunications towers assets in Europe to Cellnex
  • EdgePoint Infrastructure (a DigitalBridge-backed platform): on the corporate aspect of its US$750 million sale-and-leaseback acquisition of a portfolio of more than 4,200 telecommunications towers from PT Indostat Tbk
  • Citi on its US$3.7 billion sale of its consumer banking business in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam to United Overseas Bank
  • Citi on its US$1.2 billion sale of its consumer banking business in the Philippines to Union Bank of the Philippines

  • HSBC as platform counsel in respect of HSBC's role as the platform provider to HKMA on the world's first multi-currency digital bond offering issued by the Government of Hong Kong
  • Thinxtra on its submission to OFCA for permission to establish IoT business in Hong Kong leading to the creation and granting by as one of the first recipients of OFCA’s new Wireless IoT Licence
