Overview

Jennifer Carter brings her years of experience in scientific research and the technology industry to Baker Botts' Intellectual Property group. Prior to attending law school, she worked as a device specialist and clinical engineer for a medical device company.

Jennifer's practice spans complex intellectual property litigation, with particular focus on patent infringement and trade secret misappropriation. She has developed recognized skills in patent damages, including issues related to marking under 35 U.S.C. § 287, and analyzing reasonable royalty theories, cost savings methodologies, and apportionment issues in multi-component products.

Jennifer represents clients across diverse technology sectors, including semiconductor technologies, energy and green hydrogen projects, software and technology services, oil and gas, biotechnology, telecommunications, and food services. She has substantial experience coordinating parallel proceedings between district courts and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

Beyond litigation, Jennifer counsels technology companies on developing trade secret protection policies, conducting IP due diligence for transactions, and providing freedom-to-operate and non-infringement opinions.

Jennifer maintains an active pro bono practice, dedicating substantial time to asylum representation, including preparing clients for interviews before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, immigration court hearings and coordinating with country conditions experts. She also provides intellectual property services to Houston-area nonprofits and individual inventors, assisting with patent applications, trademark registrations, and copyright matters.
