Baker Botts Helps Advance Saronic’s $3 Billion Next-Generation Shipyard
Baker Botts advised Saronic Technologies on key elements of Port Alpha, a more than $3 billion next-generation shipyard planned for the Port of Brownsville.
One of the largest industrial investments in Texas, Port Alpha is designed to expand U.S. shipbuilding capacity and support Saronic’s development of autonomous vessels for defense and commercial fleets.
The project will occupy an initial 835 acres, with the potential to expand to nearly 4,400 acres. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026.
Baker Botts advised Saronic on the negotiation of its lease with the Port of Brownsville, state and local tax incentives and construction-related matters. The firm’s work included guidance on property-tax abatements under Chapter 312 and the Texas Jobs, Energy, Technology, and Innovation program, together with construction contracts supporting the landmark development.
The representation brought together the firm’s state and local tax, real estate, energy projects, environmental and corporate capabilities across four offices.
By aligning legal strategy with Saronic’s technology, infrastructure and investment objectives, Baker Botts is helping advance a project with the potential to reshape domestic maritime manufacturing and strengthen the country’s industrial capacity.
