Baker Botts-Advised Oman U.S. $1 Billion Sukuk Wins Islamic Finance News’ Deal of the Year Award
LONDON, 27 January 2026 – Baker Botts L.L.P. has been recognised for its role advising the Sultanate of Oman on its U.S.$1 billion sovereign Sukuk issuance, which has been named Best Deal in Oman at the Islamic Finance News Deals of the Year Awards 2025. The transaction was led by the firm’s London capital markets team, headed by partners Patrick Lyons and Jennifer Rees, with senior associate Amy Rees.
Baker Botts acted as English and U.S. counsel on the award-winning transaction, which closed in October 2025 and marked Oman’s first international capital markets transaction and liability management exercise since 2021. The Certificates were issued under Oman Sovereign Sukuk S.A.O.C.’s Trust Certificate Programme, structured pursuant to an Ijara arrangement, and listed on the main market of the London Stock Exchange.
Citigroup, Dubai Islamic Bank, J.P. Morgan, KFH Capital, Mashreq, Sohar International Bank and Standard Chartered Bank acted as managers on the issuance, with Citigroup, J.P. Morgan and Standard Chartered Bank serving as dealer managers on the concurrent tender offer.
The award recognises the significance of the transaction and Baker Botts’ relationship with the Omani Ministry of Finance, as well as the firm’s continued work on complex sovereign Islamic finance transactions.
