Baker Botts Welcomes National Security and DOD Federal Credit Official as Finance Lawyer
WASHINGTON, D.C., JULY 28, 2025 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm has announced that Eric Robinson has joined the Firm as Special Counsel in the New York and Washington, D.C. offices.
Drawing on more than two decades of experience in national security, federal finance, and private legal practice, Robinson advises clients in the defense industrial base, maritime sector, and critical minerals and metals industries on complex transactions, often involving federal credit programs and government financial support mechanisms.
Before joining the Firm, Robinson served as Managing Director at the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of Strategic Capital (OSC) and Chief Operating Officer of its Credit Program Office. There, he helped launch the Pentagon’s first industry-focused lending program for private and publicly traded companies. Robinson designed the Credit Program’s regulatory approval process and its underwriting, credit risk, and project development functions. He also developed OSC’s national security risk screening policies in coordination with intelligence and counterintelligence activities of the Department of Defense. While in private practice before his government service, Robinson advised on multi-jurisdictional M&A, capital markets, and corporate venture transactions. His clients include entities navigating convertible debt, cross-border joint ventures, and multi-billion-dollar IPOs.
“Our firm has a market-leading practice representing both government sponsors of federal credit programs and borrowers who seek their funding,” said Danny David, Managing Partner of Baker Botts. “As an architect of one of the federal government’s leading credit programs, Eric is uniquely positioned to help clients seize emerging opportunities at the nexus of national security, innovation, and capital, where the stakes are high and the landscape is shifting fast.”
“Eric brings a rare blend of government depth and private sector sharpness,” said Jason Bennett, Chair of Baker Botts’ Global Projects practice. “He understands the changes in federal funding for national security and how capital is likely to follow the new priorities, which is critical for our clients’ development of innovative technologies and projects. His addition reflects the strategic insight we want to offer clients and the expanded strategic direction for our practices.”
Robinson is a frequent media commentator and panelist on national security issues. He previously served as an officer in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and as a counterterrorism professional in the intelligence community and at the Joint Special Operations Command. Robinson has authored a forthcoming book on risk management, currently undergoing pre-publication review at the Pentagon.
