WASHINGTON, D.C., March 4, 2024 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, announced today that Matthew Gurch has joined the Energy, Projects & Transactions Section of the Global Projects Department as a partner in the Washington, D.C. office.

Gurch’s practice focuses on advising sponsors and private lenders and multilateral development banks in domestic and international energy and infrastructure project development and financings. His broad-based experience includes tax equity structuring and back leverage debt financings for renewable and energy transition assets, and the development and financing of nuclear and other thermal power generation and oil and gas projects.

“Matt is a highly experienced project development and finance attorney and another key strategic lateral partner hire for the firm,” said Danny David, Managing Partner of Baker Botts. “His experience advising clients with respect to complex domestic and international energy and infrastructure projects will be a great complement to our outstanding offerings in those areas. We are excited to welcome him to the firm.”

Gurch is the seventh lateral partner to join Baker Botts since early February. The firm also welcomed prominent energy and infrastructure lawyer Mona Dajani in December as Global Co-Chair of Energy Infrastructure and Hydrogen and Co-Chair of the firm’s Energy Sector.

“Matt’s diverse experience and deep market knowledge in renewables, power, and energy transition projects and financings will be attractive to our clients and expands the breadth of our team,” said Jason Bennett, Firmwide Chair of Baker Botts’ Global Projects Department. “His broad expertise across the energy, mining, and infrastructure value chains makes him a perfect fit for us.”

“I am thrilled to join Baker Botts,” Gurch said, “With its full-service energy platform and its leadership in the energy transition, I know Baker Botts is the best place for me to further expand my practice and serve my clients.”

Gurch earned his J.D. from New York University School of Law and his A.B. from Duke University. He joins the firm from Stoel Rives, where he was a partner in the Corporate practice group and a member of the Energy and Natural Resources Industry Groups.
