Baker Botts Welcomes Leading Energy Finance Partner to New York Office


NEW YORK, September 12, 2022 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology and life sciences law firm, announced today that Ellen Friedman has joined its Global Projects Department as a partner in New York.

Friedman has extensive experience in project finance involving both traditional fossil and renewable energy projects and, more recently, carbon capture, renewable fuels, clean hydrogen and other energy transition projects. Her practice supports project developers and sponsors, tax and equity investors, commercial lenders, underwriters and buyers and sellers of projects and hedge providers.

She joins the firm from Nixon Peabody, where she was Co-Head of the Energy and Infrastructure Projects team.

Friedman has been recognized for exceptional standing in the national legal community in Chambers USA in the Projects category. She has also been recognized for exceptional standing in the global legal community in Chambers Global for Projects.

She earned her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and her B.A. from Cornell University.

Friedman is the third partner to join Baker Botts’ Global Projects Department recently, with energy regulatory and transactional partner Michelle Boudreaux joining the firm’s Houston office in early August and energy projects partner Elias Hinckley joining the Washington, D.C. office last week.
