Overview

Alex Kerr is Head of LNG for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Widely recognised as a leading LNG lawyer, he advises clients across the global LNG value chain on strategic energy transactions, commercial contracting and project development involving LNG, gas, hydrogen and ammonia.

Alex's practice is focused on the negotiation and execution of complex energy transactions, particularly long-term and short-term agreements for the sale and purchase of LNG, pipeline gas, hydrogen and ammonia. He has extensive experience drafting and negotiating long-term sale and purchase agreements, master sales agreements and spot trading documentation, advising sellers, buyers, portfolio players and traders on some of the sector's most significant commercial arrangements.

In addition, Alex advises governments, national oil companies and project sponsors on the development of LNG, hydrogen, ammonia and cross-border pipeline projects. His experience spans the full project lifecycle, from project structuring and development through to the negotiation of key commercial and project agreements.

Alex also brings valuable in-house perspective, having undertaken client secondments during his career, including with ExxonMobil's upstream legal department. This combination of private practice and in-house experience enables him to provide commercially focused advice that reflects the practical realities faced by clients operating in global energy markets.

  • Confidential Seller on a 10-year LNG SPA for the supply of LNG to various regasification terminals across Europe (DES)
  • ConocoPhillips – advising on two LNG SPAs to supply LNG from Qatar's North Field East and North Field South projects to Germany (DES)
  • Western LNG and its affiliate Ksi Lisims LNG Limited Partnership – on a 20-year LNG SPA (FOB)
  • Confidential Seller on a 20-year LNG SPA from a U.S. liquefaction terminal to Europe in 2023
