HOUSTON, TX – June 12, 2025 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, announced today that it represented Commonwealth LNG in negotiating a 20-year LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement with JERA Co., Inc., Japan’s largest power generation company and one of the world’s largest LNG buyers. Under the agreement, JERA will purchase 1 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of LNG from Commonwealth’s 9.5 Mtpa export facility under development in Cameron, Louisiana.

Commonwealth has secured 4 Mtpa of long-term offtake agreements and is targeting a final investment decision (FID) in Q3 2025, with first LNG production expected in 2029.

The project is expected to unlock approximately $11 billion in investment in Louisiana, support about 2,000 construction jobs at peak, and create roughly 275 permanent positions upon operation.
