Jonathan D. Cocks is an Associate in the Intellectual Property Practice of the firm’s New York office. His practice includes all aspects of intellectual property law and he focuses on patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, IP counseling, and patent prosecution in the high-tech sector. Jonathan represents clients at the Federal Circuit, in district courts, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. His practice spans a wide range of technological fields, including electrical products and integrated circuits, complex software, computing systems, hard drive architecture, mechanical arts, manufacturing equipment and processes, medical devices, plasma physics, energy, and business methods. Jonathan also counsels clients through due diligence, patent portfolio analysis, freedom to operate, and patentability concerns.

Jonathan advises clients regarding worldwide portfolio management and strategic development, licensing, and litigation. In addition, he has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patents in the U.S. and in major markets abroad covering a wide variety of subject matter. Jonathan’s diligence in clarifying the details of a new technology or product allows him to tactically guide his clients through every stage of patent preparation and prosecution.

Furthermore, Jonathan previously served as law clerk to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio. Currently, Jonathan serves as the Scholarship Committee Chair for the North Central Region of the University of California.
