Jonathan D. Cocks is an Associate in the Intellectual Property Practice of the firm’s New York office. His practice includes all aspects of intellectual property law and he focuses on patent litigation, post-grant proceedings, IP counseling, and patent prosecution in the high-tech sector.

Jonathan represents clients at the Federal Circuit, in federal district courts, the International Trade Commission, and before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. His practice spans a wide range of technological fields, including electrical products and integrated circuits, complex software and data processing, computing systems, and hard drive architecture, magnetic tape storage, energy, manufacturing equipment and processes, medical devices, and business methods. His litigation experience ranges from jury trials, bench trials, ITC evidentiary hearings, Markman hearings, and summary judgment proceedings, to all aspects of fact and expert discovery. Jonathan also counsels clients through due diligence, patent portfolio analysis, freedom to operate, and patentability concerns.

In addition to patent litigation, Jonathan advises clients in the areas of worldwide portfolio management and strategic development, licensing, and prosecution. He has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patents in the U.S. and in major markets abroad covering a wide variety of subject matter. Jonathan's diligence in clarifying the details of a new technology or product allows him to tactically guide his clients through every stage of patent preparation and prosecution.

Jonathan also maintains an active pro bono practice. Most recently, he has represented individuals in immigration matters before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR). He has also represented individuals before federal district courts in civil matters.

Furthermore, Jonathan previously served as law clerk to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Ohio. Currently, Jonathan serves as the Scholarship Committee Chair for the North Central Region of the University of California.
