Overview

Kaya Wong is an Associate in our London office, skilled in international arbitration and commercial litigation. She has experience with arbitral proceedings administered under various institutional rules and has acted in prominent cases before the English High Court. Her practice also includes advising on sanctions compliance and regulatory matters.

Before joining Baker Botts, Kaya trained and qualified at a large international law firm headquartered in London, where her disputes experience spanned multiple jurisdictions and sectors, including energy, natural resources, international trade, financial services, and insurance.

Originally from Hong Kong, Kaya is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin.

  • Acting for European energy majors against LNG producer in ICC arbitrations arising under long-term SPAs.
  • Acting for a Middle Eastern state against a European energy major in UNCITRAL arbitration arising under an exploration and production sharing agreement.
  • Acting for an Asian energy company in ICDR arbitration brought by European energy company and arising under a gas supply agreement.
  • Acting for a London-listed technology company in English High Court proceeding, concerning claims against Asian technology company for misuse of confidential information, trade secret infringement and breach of contract.
  • Acting for a Middle Eastern technology and defence company in DIAC arbitration involving novel jurisdiction issues.
  • Represented a notable law firm in a high-profile professional negligence claim in the English High Court.*
  • Represented insurers acting as intervenors in DIS arbitration in connection with one of the largest warranty & indemnity claims presented in the London insurance market.*
  • Represented D&O insurers in connection with insolvency proceedings in the English High Court arising from a corporate collapse.*

Sanctions & Pre-Contentious Advisory

  • Advised an offshore drilling equipment manufacturer on its supply chain compliance with the UK’s Russia sanctions regime.
  • Advised a chemicals developer and manufacturer on UK import duties and commodity classification regulations.
  • Advised an offshore drilling contractor on its litigation risks in English law arising under marketing and framework agreements.
  • Advised an oil and gas services company as to UK and EU sanctions compliance in the light of its planned divestiture from Russia.*
  • Advised an offshore energy company as to its long-term EPC contract with a sanctioned entity.*
  • Advised the owners of an LNG vessel fleet as to their exposure to UK, EU and U.S. sanctions against Russia, including in relation to its dealings with a sanctioned bank, and issues of export control.*
