Overview

Alistair Wishart is an experienced project development lawyer who advises on energy and infrastructure projects around the world. Alistair has been ranked in the Chambers UK Guide for 2014 to 2017 for Projects and is recognized in the The Legal 500 UK for both Projects (2021-2025) and Construction (2023-2025).

Alistair's practice encompasses both traditional energy and petrochemicals projects as well as energy transition and renewable energy projects. He has a wealth of experience in drafting and negotiating engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts, as well as guiding clients through the ongoing issues that typically arise during the development and operational stages of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects.

Experience

  • Affiliates of Global Infrastructure Partners in the acquisition of a 50 percent interest in the multi-billion dollar South Fork and Revolution Offshore Wind Projects off the East coast of the United States from Eversource Energy, including the negotiation of the joint venture arrangements with Orsted for the construction and operation of the projects (IJInvestor Joint Venture of the Year, 2024)
  • Uzbekistan GTL on the construction, development and financing of a $3.6 billion gas to liquids project in the Kashkadarya Region, close to Karshi, in the Republic of Uzbekistan. This project is financed by or under the cover of several export credit agencies, development banks and commercial banks, including China Development Bank, KEXIM and KSure
  • ASX listed ioneer in the development of the flagship Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron Project located in Nevada in a 50/50 joint venture with Sibanye Stillwater, including offtake agreements to supply lithium for the manufacture of batteries for electric vehicles
  • Uzbekistan GTL and Uzbekneftegas on the sale to Air Products of a natural gas-to-syngas processing facility in the Kashkadarya Region, Uzbekistan for US$1 billion. This sale is the largest M&A transaction in Uzbekistan’s history.
  • The project company on the EPC contracting and project development of a rubber production facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • The sponsors on ongoing project management issues in relation to the construction of an offshore wind farm in the North Sea
  • The contractor consortium on an LNG receiving, storage and regasification terminal in Europe
  • The sponsors in relation to the development of LNG regasification terminals in Western Europe and West Africa
  • The sponsors on the feedstock supply and offtake agreements for a bioethanol plant in Texas
  • Enviva, a publicly traded company that acts as the world’s leading supplier of wood pellets as a source of renewable energy, in relation to various wood pellet supply contracts
  • The majority shareholder in relation to a concession to build, operate and manage a new international airport in Saudi Arabia
  • SOCAR GPC on its proposed multibillion dollar development and financing of a gas processing plant and petrochemicals facility in Azerbaijan
  • The concessionaire in relation to concessions to build, operate and manage private aviation terminals in Jeddah airport, Riyadh airport and Dammam airport in Saudi Arabia
  • STAR Rafineri A.Ş. a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and its sponsors on the development and financing of a $6.3 billion greenfield oil refinery in Turkey on the Aegean Sea. This is the largest project financing in Turkey and involves the largest and most diverse group of ECAs for any multi-source financing in Turkey to date. The STAR project sets new benchmarks for project financings in Turkey in terms of amount and tenor of facilities. The Project won 10 awards including Infrastructure Journal’s "European Oil and Gas Deal of the Year 2014"
  • A joint venture among Korean Gas Corp (KOGAS), Lotte Chemical, STX Energy, and Uzbekneftegas, on the development of the approximately $3.9 billion Surgil gas to petrochemicals project and the Asian Development Bank, KEXIM, and KSure-led financing thereof; Project Finance International's "Petrochemical Deal of the Year 2012," Infrastructure Journal's "Oil and Gas Deal of the Year 2013," The American Lawyer's "Global Finance Deal of the Year: Project Finance (Asia) 2014" and the largest project financing in Central Asia
  • EuroChem in connection with the development and financing of a 2,700-metric-tons-per-day ammonia plant, and all related infrastructure, in the Russian Federation
  • SOCAR Polymer on the approximately $800 million development and financing of facilities for the production of polypropylene and high-density polyethylene in the Republic of Azerbaijan
  • A contractor in connection with the joint venture arrangements and a detailed subcontract between two contractors for the construction of a railway line in Tanzania
  • The contractor in relation to the engineering, procurement and construction of a railway and associated coal port facility in Mozambique
  • A Turkey-based petrochemical company in connection with the construction, financing, and operation of a container port on the Aegean coast of Turkey
