Alessandro Peschechera, PhD, is a Senior Patent Agent in the New York office, where he focuses on strategic patent prosecution, portfolio development, and intellectual property risk management for life sciences, healthcare, and biotechnology‑driven food and consumer products.

He advises multinational biopharmaceutical companies, emerging life sciences companies, universities, research institutions, and non‑profit organizations on the protection and commercialization of complex technologies, supporting innovation from early research through clinical development and commercialization, as well as in connection with corporate and financing transactions.

Alessandro brings deep technical and scientific experience across immuno‑oncology, cell and gene therapies (including CAR‑T), genome and RNA editing technologies (such as CRISPR), therapeutic antibodies, biologics (including GLP‑1–based therapies and insulin analogs), diagnostics, medical devices, and microbial‑ and protein‑based platforms, as well as biotechnology applications in food and consumer products.

In addition to drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications, Alessandro regularly conducts freedom‑to‑operate analyses, patentability and validity assessments, competitive landscape and white‑space analyses, and IP due diligence in connection with licensing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, and strategic collaborations. He works closely with deal teams and in‑house counsel to evaluate IP risk and value in high‑stakes transactions.

Prior to joining Baker Botts, Alessandro served as an Intellectual Property Manager at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, where he managed global patent prosecution activities for oncology-focused portfolios and collaborated closely with scientists, technology transfer professionals, and external counsel.

Before transitioning to intellectual property practice, Alessandro conducted academic research at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Boston University, where his work focused on the development and therapeutic application of biologics (e.g., GLP‑1 and insulin analogs for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes). He has authored peer‑reviewed scientific publications and presented his research at national and international conferences.
