Overview

Zack Lin is a senior associate in our Global Projects Practice based in Singapore. His practice focuses on all aspects of energy and infrastructure projects, including development, project financing and acquisitions.

He has represented governments, sponsors, lenders (including multilateral lenders and export credit agencies) and contractors on projects globally, including in Asia (with extensive experience in Vietnam, Indonesia, Taiwan and Bangladesh), the Middle East and Africa. Zack's practice covers a wide range of sectors, from energy to water treatment and healthcare, with a particular focus on renewable energy and energy transition.

Having experience on all sides of the table, Zack is able to provide comprehensive advice and perspective on project structuring and risk allocation. Zack is dual-qualified in Singapore and England and Wales, and is recommended as a key lawyer for Projects (Foreign Firms) practice in Singapore by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, 2022 and 2023.

Project Development & Acquisition

  • Hartree Partners on the development and financing of its utility scale portfolio of battery storage units in Taiwan (PFI Asia Pacific Battery Deal of the Year 2023)
  • Bidder in relation to its bid for the development of onshore wind assets in Indonesia
  • Consortium in relation to its bid to acquire a minority stake in a global hydrogen and ammonia developer
  • Investment company on the US$1.9 billion acquisition of a 1GW coal-fired power plant in Vietnam
  • ACWA Power on construction agreements for the US$1.2 billion Taweelah desalination Independent Water Project in Abu Dhabi, one of the world's largest RO desalination plant (Middle East and North Africa Water Deal of the Year, IJGlobal Awards 2019)
  • Global energy investment company on construction agreements for an LNG hub project (including import terminal and combined-cycle power plant) in the Philippines
  • Global technology company on powering data centres through solar PV projects in Singapore, including advising on the sale and purchase of renewable energy credits
  • Northland Power Inc. and Yushan Energy Company Ltd. on the project development of the offshore wind farm Hai Long in Taiwan

Project Financing

  • JBIC and NEXI on the US$2 billion financing of Van Phong 1 BOT IPP – one of the largest greenfield independent coal-fired power projects in Vietnam
  • DFIs on the Mazar Independent Power Project in Afghanistan – the 50MW gas-fired power plant will be the first private power project to use domestically produced natural gas
  • Asian Development Bank and GuarantCo on the US$160 million financing to provide affordable, high-speed broadband internet connections to countries in Asia and the Pacific Islands – the satellite was manufactured by Boeing and was successfully launched by SpaceX
  • Lender on the debt refinancing of a 50MW solar power plant in Mymensingh, Bangladesh
  • Natixis on the US$225 million financing of the 300MW Sakaka Solar PV Project in Saudi Arabia as part of the Vision 2030 – the first renewable independent power project in Saudi Arabia
