Overview

Kyle Doherty is a partner in the Energy Projects and Transactions section of the firm's Global Projects practice. Kyle counsels public and private equity-backed companies on strategic energy transactions across traditional and renewable power; carbon capture, use, and storage (CCUS); oil and gas; petrochemicals; and low carbon fuels. Kyle works with clients to negotiate and structure agreements for each stage of a project's development, from M&A transactions to joint ventures, to supply and offtake agreements. With a background that spans a wide spectrum of the global energy industry, Kyle provides market insights to help clients set up their projects for long-term success.

Traditional and Renewable Power

  • Private equity backed portfolio company – long-term tolling services agreement with respect to a development-stage gas-fired power plant with an anticipated capacity of approximately 95 MW
  • Private equity backed portfolio company – acquisition of several development-stage solar, wind, and battery projects, totaling approximately 1,440 MW of capacity
  • Private equity backed portfolio company – long-term power purchase agreements with data center offtakers for projects totaling approximately 480 MW of capacity
  • Public energy company – acquisition of a private company with 10 GW of development-stage and operating solar power projects
  • Public energy company – acquisition of development-stage solar power projects with an aggregate output of 820 MW
  • Hunt Energy Network – joint venture to construct, operate and manage battery storage systems
  • Renewable energy portfolio company – sale of 57.5 MW wind power facility

  • Private equity backed portfolio company – CO2 offtake and sequestration agreement with an ethanol producer for the disposal of approximately 320,000 metric tons of CO2 annually
  • Publicly traded oil and gas company – CO2 offtake and sequestration agreements totaling approximately 1 million metric tons of CO2 annually
  • Publicly traded power company – CO2 offtake and sequestration agreement for the disposal of approximately 1.8 million metric tons of CO2 annually
  • Private equity backed portfolio company – CO2 offtake and sequestration agreement with an ammonia production company for the disposal of approximately 400,000 metric tons of CO2 annually
  • Lapis Carbon Solutions – joint venture with Denbury, Inc. and related CO2 offtake and sequestration agreement for the disposal of up to 200 million metric tons of CO2
  • Gevo, Inc. – numerous sustainable aviation fuel and renewable natural gas supply agreements with offtakers in the aviation and biofuel sectors

Upstream Oil and Gas

  • BHP Billiton – divestiture of U.S. shale assets located in the Permian, Eagle Ford and Haynesville plays and Fayetteville play collectively valued at $10.8 billion
  • Moda Midstream – acquisition of Ingleside Energy Center, a storage and export terminal located in Ingleside, Texas
  • Public E&P company – divestiture of assets in the Eagle Ford
  • Privately held company – equity sale and joint venture to develop assets in Mexico
  • Public E&P company – divestiture of assets in the Midcontinent valued at $36 million.
  • Shell Oil Company – seconded to the upstream unconventional asset group to assist with joint ventures as well as acquisitions and divestitures

Midstream and Downstream Oil and Gas

  • European petrochemical company – offtake of ethane, propane and butane from U.S. shippers, totaling approximately 14.5 million barrels of product per year
  • Delek US Holdings, Inc. – sale of Delek’s retail convenience store business to FEMSA for $385 million.
  • Hibernia Energy – sale of water management infrastructure and commercial agreements for water services
  • Financial institution – non-recourse supply and offtake arrangements and financing transactions related to the construction and operation of refineries
  • Privately held corporation – engineering, procurement and construction contract for a domestic ethylene facility
  • Public LNG equipment corporation – equipment sales agreement for sale and construction of cryogenic equipment
  • Privately held corporation – service agreement forms for use with a variety of general contractors
  • National oil company – divestiture of downstream assets in South America valued at approximately $490 million
  • National oil company – divestiture of downstream assets in South America
  • Public midstream company – gas gathering and processing agreements to service Marcellus Shale assets
