Overview

María Eugenia is an Associate in the International Disputes Team in our London office with experience in international commercial arbitration, construction arbitration, dispute resolution procedures before a Combined Dispute Board, and investment treaty arbitration. She practices fully bilingual in Spanish and in English and is fluent in Italian.

María Eugenia holds a Bachelor's degree in Law and a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from the University of the Republic in Uruguay. She was admitted as a solicitor by the Supreme Court of Justice of Uruguay in 2016. She obtained her Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from Queen Mary University of London in 2019.

Her professional experience in arbitration covers proceedings before major international arbitration forums, including ICC, CAM Santiago, UNCITRAL, and the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Ecuadorian American Chamber of Commerce of Quito (CAM-AMCHAM).

Prior to joining Baker Botts in 2020, María Eugenia worked as a state counsel at the National Administration of State Power Plants and Transmissions (UTE) in Uruguay. She also worked as a legal assistant for a major U.S. Oil Company in the London office and was an intern in the international arbitration department of a Magic Circle UK firm in London. She has also served as a teaching assistant in Procedural Law at the University of the Republic in Uruguay.

  • South American construction state-owned company - acted for the owner of a Hydro-Power Generation Project in an ICC arbitration against an EPC Contractor.
  • South American construction state-owned company - acted for the owner of a Hydro-Power Generation Project in several disputes before a Combined Dispute Board Under the ICC Dispute Boards Rules.
  • South American state-owned construction company - acted for the owner of a Hydro-Power Generation Project in a CAM Santiago arbitration against an EPC Contractor.
  • South American construction company - acted for the owner of a Power Generation Project in a mediation process.
  • Advised a company on the structuring of its investments in a Middle East country and its rights under Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs).
  • Advised a group of companies about the content and the potential impact of a potential constitutional reform by a South American state.
  • South American construction state-owned company - advised the owner of a power generation Project on the cost-benefits of submitting several disputes to arbitration.
  • Acted for an oil company (Respondent) in an English Law commercial arbitration that arouse under a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA).*
