Baker Botts Names New Leaders as Energy and AI Infrastructure Demand Accelerates

Release

September 8, 2026 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international energy, technology, and life sciences law firm, today announced four leadership appointments across practices central to major energy and infrastructure investments and the complex transactions that drive them.

Elaine Walsh and Carlos Solé have been named Co-Chairs of the Firm’s Global Projects Department. Michael Didriksen has been named Co-Chair of the Energy Sector Leadership Committee, and Jon Lobb has been named Chair of the Tax Department.

The appointments come as power demand tests the limits of the grid and artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure increase demand for generation, battery storage, and grid access. New fuels, technologies, and sources of capital are also changing how major energy and infrastructure projects are developed, financed, and built.

“Baker Botts has long worked at the center of both energy and technology, and those strengths are increasingly converging as infrastructure, innovation and capital reshape our clients’ businesses,” said Managing Partner Danny David. “Elaine, Carlos, Mike and Jon are leading work tied to that change. Their experience, judgment and understanding of where these markets are headed make them exceptionally well equipped to guide the Firm into its next chapter.”

Walsh is a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee, Partner-in-Charge of the Firm’s Washington, D.C. office, and Firmwide Co-Chair of the Power Practice. She has worked in the power sector since the deregulation of U.S. electricity markets in the 1990s and helped build the Firm’s power practice. Walsh leads energy M&A, power project development, and transactional work where data centers meet the grid, advising on one of the most consequential commercial questions facing developers, investors, technology companies, and power producers.

Based in Houston, Solé has served as Deputy Chair of the Global Projects Department since 2018 and advises clients on major energy and infrastructure transactions across markets and technologies. He specializes in project development and M&A activity in the LNG, power, and downstream energy sectors.  He brings a multidisciplinary perspective, along with sound judgment and a collaborative approach, to projects crossing practices, offices, and borders.

Didriksen has served for the past three years as Co-Chair of the New York Corporate and Global Projects practices and, along with Walsh, is the Firmwide Co-Chair of the Power Practice. A deal lawyer with more than 20 years of experience, he advises on transactions shaping the future of renewable and conventional power, energy storage, transmission and alternative fuels. He led the negotiations of a first-of-its-kind agreement to supply around-the-clock carbon-free energy to Google data centers in Virginia and worked with the Baker Botts team on the $6 billion Champlain Hudson Power Express project, which will provide clean energy necessary to satisfy 20% of all the energy needs of New York City.

Lobb is based in Houston, and his practice focuses on cross-border tax planning matters for large multinational companies and on the tax aspects of complex domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures and energy projects. He works on matters across the energy and technology sectors, including the upstream oil and gas, oilfield services, LNG, transportation, mining, downstream and telecommunications industries that require close coordination among corporate, finance, projects and tax counsel. Through the first half of 2026, he advised on more than a dozen significant transactions across the Firm.

Baker Botts advises clients on many of the most significant energy and infrastructure matters underway today, with work across the United States and key international markets, including the Middle East and Singapore. More than 300 lawyers across the Firm identify energy as a significant part of their practice, advising on the projects, transactions and technologies shaping the sector’s future.
