UK Mergers after Brexit: Disruption or Continuation?
Baker Botts in partnership with Concurrences participated in a webinar titled UK Mergers after Brexit: Disruption or Continuation? on 24 February 2021.
Speakers, including Antitrust & Competition Law Partner Catriona Hatton, offered their perspectives on the ongoing ramp up of merger enforcement by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), and how companies can best navigate the evolving merger control landscape.
With Brexit, the CMA gains broader powers to review deals which were previously under the exclusive jurisdiction of Brussels and is set to take a more prominent role at the forefront of international merger enforcement. The panel considered the CMA’s recent activity of asserting jurisdiction over deals where the target has little or no UK revenues, and using an array of tools at its disposal to challenge international transactions (including post-closing), among other enforcement measures.
