Michael Yuffee has extensive experience representing clients in energy and commodity-related regulatory proceedings, investigation, and transactional matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). He is experienced in the regulatory facets of both the physical and financial wholesale power, natural gas, oil, and products markets, including the formation and redesign of wholesale energy markets, transmission and transportation access, capacity market development, interconnection issues, electric transmission, natural gas and oil pipeline rate proceedings, and general administrative and civil litigation matters. He regularly represents wholesale market participants, energy traders and marketers, commodities traders, financial institutions, wholesale power suppliers, and integrated energy companies with the development of regulatory compliance programs as well as represents clients in both public and non-public investigations, audits, and enforcement actions before the FERC, CFTC, and other agencies.
Michael also advises clients in the complex regulatory aspects of structured physical and financial energy transactions, project development transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and wholesale power and natural gas transactions.
Michael was previously the head of the FERC regulatory practice at a leading international law firm. Prior to entering private practice, he was an attorney-advisor in FERC's Office of Administrative Law Judges, where he assisted in all aspects of electricity and natural gas rate proceedings, mergers, and utility restructuring.
