Charles has been assisting corporations on complex patent projects for over nine years. He represents clients at the United States Patent & Trademark Office, before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, in Federal District Court, and in technology transactions and licensing. He is well-versed and has substantial experience in several technical fields including telecommunications, electronics, semiconductors, software, hardware, networking, signal processing, digital security, e-commerce, artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, machine vision, medical devices, fintech, graphical user interfaces, transportation, encryption, and the mechanical arts. He also prepares technology agreements for both suppliers and customers of hardware and software.
Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Charles was an engineer at MicroStrategy, Inc. He worked in the Intelligence Server group, where he honed his technical and writing skills. He is a MicroStrategy Certified Engineer and was one of the fastest and youngest to ever be promoted to the Senior Engineer ranks at MicroStrategy.
Charles is also active in his community and local government. He leads Baker Botts' pro bono team at the Dallas Housing Crisis Center, and in that role, he has personally assisted over one hundred families to avoid homelessness. He also serves on the Murphy Board of Adjustment, a committee appointed by the City Council of Murphy, Texas. He further serves on the Dallas Asian American Bar Association's Professional Development Committee.
