Katie Juffa works on a range of intellectual property matters, focusing primarily on patent prosecution, intellectual property counseling, technology transfers and patent litigation. Ms. Juffa prepares and prosecutes patent applications relating to telecommunications, software, financial services and other technologies. She also drafts claim charts and prepares arguments for reexamination and inter partes review before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
With respect to intellectual property counseling, Ms. Juffa prepares legal opinions on patent validity, patent infringement, patentability and freedom to operate. In addition, she drafts licenses and other agreements pertaining to the development, use and ownership of intellectual property.
Ms. Juffa's technology transfer experience includes performing due diligence investigations for merger and acquisition transactions. Ms. Juffa has worked on deals having various structures and sizes, with particular experience representing clients in the acquisition of software assets. As part of due diligence, she evaluates the use of open source and other third party software delivered according to distributed and SaaS models. Ms. Juffa's technology transfer experience also includes drafting and negotiating portions of definitive agreements relating to intellectual property.
Ms. Juffa's litigation experience includes pretrial discovery, infringement and invalidity analysis, claim construction and motion practice.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Ms. Juffa spent five years working as an electrical engineer for a worldwide electronics company. As an engineer, she developed and deployed features for a wireless telecommunications network, which included launching a high speed packet data network.
