Tomas Gärdfors is a banking lawyer based in London. Tomas’ core business is debt solutions in the European energy transition space. Tomas' broad practice includes European cross-border energy infrastructure and energy transition debt transactions, transmission assets, portfolios and projects of common interest. Tomas has advised financial institutions, banks, debt funds, lenders, sponsors and borrowers for over 25 years on debt financing facilities for leveraged acquisitions, project finance, holdco financings and other structured finance transactions across the capital stack, particularly in energy infrastructure.

Tomas is skilled in debt finance with significant interest in energy, infrastructure, energy transition, and digital infrastructure. His practice includes European cross-border energy infrastructure transactions, including M&A and debt financings (including green financings). He has particular experience in the renewables and energy transition space, where he advises clients in various jurisdictions across the UK, mainland Europe, the Nordics, Africa and Latin America.

Tomas has advised on renewable and energy transition financings in the UK, the Nordics, Europe and Latin America. Tomas has extensive knowledge of, and experience in, the Nordic region.
His practice increasingly includes aspects of the energy transition including synthetic fuels and battery storage.

Tomas is qualified in both Sweden and England & Wales and is a fluent speaker of English, Swedish, and German with a working knowledge of Danish and Norwegian.

  • Advising a financial institution on the financing of the MeyGen Ltd tidal power development, as part of the first phase of the 398MW project in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth, Scotland*
