Valerie Barker handles a wide range of intellectual property matters for a diverse set of clients. As a senior associate in the Intellectual Property Practice group in Austin, she, focuses primarily on patent litigation and patent prosecution and she regularly handles complex disputes involving concurrent proceedings in Federal Courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC) and proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Barker has served as the lead associate on high-stakes patent infringement matters and represented clients during Markman and Summary Judgment hearings.
Over her career, Ms. Barker has litigated patent infringement disputes involving a diverse range of technology including near field communication, wireless communications technologies, video and data communications technology (e.g., DSL, ADSL, VDSL), computer and server hardware and software, e-commerce, and radiocommunications hardware (e.g., antennas and antenna arrays). Ms. Barker also handles a variety of high-technology clients in her patent prosecution practice including technology related to oilfield equipment and associated software, computer hardware, software, and medical devices.
Prior to law school, Ms. Barker worked as an engineer for seven years at two of the largest aerospace companies in the world, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company and The Boeing Company. Her technical background in aerospace and mechanical engineering spans wind tunnel testing, flight testing, aircraft manufacturing, fluid dynamics, aircraft stability and control, flying qualities and aircraft design, lean manufacturing, and process improvement.
