Baker Botts Welcomes New Chief Financial Officer

HOUSTON, December 1, 2021 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading energy, technology and life sciences law firm, is pleased to announce the arrival of Paul Eichelman as its Chief Financial Officer. He will work alongside the firm’s current, longtime CFO, Lydia Companion, whose long-planned retirement will take effect in March, following nearly 35 years of selfless service and dedication to the firm.

In his new role, Eichelman will lead the firm’s strategic and operational finance capabilities, including financial planning and analysis, accounting, financial reporting, billing and collections, audit, tax, treasury, and related financial technology and systems. He will report to Baker Botts’ Chief Operating Officer and work closely with the Managing Partner and Executive Committee.

He joins the firm from Baker & McKenzie, where he served as Global Chief Financial Officer for the last eight years.

“The foundation for our differentiated strengths rests on our deep business acumen and technical expertise,” said Baker Botts Managing Partner, John Martin. “Paul’s stellar reputation, innovativeness and proven track record of success will fortify these strengths and enhance our value proposition for our current and future clients even further. We are delighted to welcome him to the firm.”

“I had the privilege of working  with Paul at his prior firm, and his qualifications for this important position are unrivalled,” said Baker Botts Chief Operating Officer, Nick Peacock. “Paul will help us advance our ambitious strategy, drive continuous improvement, foster best practices and the highest levels of efficiency in our operations, while staying abreast of new market, economic, industry, regulatory and business trends.”

“I am thrilled to join Baker Botts,” Eichelman said. “The firm, already a leader in the energy, technology and life sciences sectors, is clearly within the midst of a renewal as it continues to make progress in the execution of its strategic plan. I am impressed with the firm’s strong foundation, client-centric focus, and collaborative entrepreneurialism. It is an exciting time to join Baker Botts, and I look forward to hitting the ground running.”

Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie in 2013, Eichelman spent 21 years at Leo Bennett Worldwide, the last eight of which he served as the company’s Executive Vice President and Global CFO. He earned his MBA, Economics & Finance, at University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
