EU Energy Antitrust Expert Joins Baker Botts

BRUSSELS, March 27, 2019 - Baker Botts’ industry leading Antitrust practice today announced that Dr. Leigh Hancher has joined the Brussels office as a Senior Advisor. 

Leigh is a leading expert in EU energy regulatory law and European state aid. Over the past three decades, she has worked extensively advising clients and regulatory bodies on energy law and policy issues as well as advising on a wide range of state aid matters. She has authored and edited several books on EU regulation and state aid including the leading work on EU State Aid (now in 5th edition), State Aid and the Energy Sector, EC Competition Law and Energy Markets and Capacity Mechanisms in the EU Energy Market.

Dr. Hancher provides counsel on both institutional and substantive EU legal issues and her work includes advising clients before the European Commission and national competition and regulatory authorities, and in arbitration proceedings.   In addition, Dr. Hancher is a Professor of European Law at the University of Tilburg, the Netherlands, and part time Professor and Director of EU Energy Law and Policy at the Florence School of Regulation. 

Over the past nine months, Baker Botts has added six highly regarded partners to its Competition Practice which is recognized as one of the most robust in the world. Maureen Ohlhausen, the former Acting Chair and Commissioner of the FTC joined the firm’s Washington, DC office earlier this year, Matthew Levitt joined the Brussels team along with Peter Huston who joined in San Francisco. Mark Botti and Anthony Swisher joined the firm in Washington, DC. In addition, Stacy Turner was recently promoted to Partner in Washington, DC.
