WASHINGTON, August 31, 2016 - Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international law firm, today announced James F. Rill has been selected by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for an independent antitrust expert group commissioned to advance competition and trade policy.
“There are a number of factors currently contributing to the growing complexities regarding competition and trade policy on a global level,” said Mr. Rill, Senior Counsel in the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Law practice. “It is the right time to closely examine antitrust policies per jurisdiction and then determine recommendations to advance the U.S. amidst the changing global landscape.”
The U.S. Chamber selected Mr. Rill for a 15-member independent group of notable industry leaders that will evaluate the challenges presented by globally divergent approaches to antitrust and the interface between competition policy and trade policy.
Mr. Rill is well-known for his contributions to the convergence of antitrust law and policy. He is one of the nation’s foremost antitrust lawyers having served in various high-profile roles, including, former Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Division for the U.S. Department of Justice, Co-Chair on the U.S. Department of Justice’s International Competition Policy Advisory Committee, as well as a Chairman of the ABA’s Antitrust Section.
The U.S. Chamber’s antitrust expert group will offer a series of recommendations for how the U.S. should approach these challenges by the end of January 2017.
