Baker Botts M&A Numbers Cross $92.5 Billion for 2015

HOUSTON/NEW YORK, December 23, 2015 – Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international law firm, advised clients on 20 large M&A transactions with an aggregate value totaling over $27 billion in the second half of 2015. When combined with M&A deal volume and value from the first half of the 2015 (35 deals for a total value of over $65 billion), Baker Botts’ totals exceeded $92 billion. 

“While 2015 did not match the levels of 2014, we did see a significant number of major deals throughout the year totaling close to $100 billion,” said David Kirkland, Co-Chair of Baker Botts’ Corporate department. “While energy deals continued to dominate the agenda, we also saw movement in other sectors such as technology, life sciences and chemicals. We expect this trend to continue as we move into 2016,” added Kelly Rose, Partner in the firm’s Houston office and Co-Chair of Baker Botts Corporate department. 

Notable transactions from the second half of the year include: 

• Schlumberger Limited – pending $14.8 billion acquisition of Cameron International Corporation. Houston partners David Kirkland and Tull Florey lead the transaction. 

• Liberty Interactive Corporation – $2.4 billion acquisition of zulily, inc. New York partner Renee Wilm led the transaction. 

• Kraton Performance Polymers, Inc. – $1.37 billion acquisition of Arizona Chemical Holdings Corporation. Houston partners Stephen Massad and Tim Taylor led the transaction. 

• The Conflicts Committee of the Board of Directors of Antero Midstream Partners LP – $1.05 billion acquisition of Antero Resources Corporation's integrated water business. Houston partner Gerry Spedale led the transaction.
