Baker Botts Adds Former Major Crimes Unit Chief to its Trial Department

NEW YORK, October 20, 2015 - Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international law firm, announced today that Lynn Neils, a former Chief of the Major Crimes Unit in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, has joined the firm’s New York office as a Partner.

“Lynn is an outstanding litigator with an impressive track record of client service in the White Collar arena. Her addition to the firm adds to our growing and robust White Collar defense practice,” said Andrew M. Baker, Managing Partner of Baker Botts.

Ms. Neils graduated from Georgetown University Law Center in December 1989, where she was a member of its American Criminal Law Review. She spent a number of years in private practice before joining the U.S. Attorney’s office, first in the Southern District of New York from 1994 to 2000, then in New Jersey from December 2001 to January 2004.

In 2004, Ms. Neils returned to the Southern District as the Acting Deputy Chief, Criminal Division from March 2004 to June 2004, and then she became Chief of the Major Crimes Unit until January 2007. In 2007, Ms. Neils became Senior Counsel at Johnson & Johnson, leaving in 2009 to join Mayer Brown. In 2012, she joined Covington & Burling as a Partner.

“In addition to Lynn’s time in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she has an enviable track record of successfully defending clients in large-scale federal criminal investigations, as well as advising on FCPA and regulatory matters involving the SEC and other federal, state and foreign regulators. Her expertise will bolster our current offerings and add significant value for clients both in New York and throughout the firm,” said Robert Scheinfeld, Partner-in-Charge of Baker Botts’ New York office.
