The American Law Institute Elects Baker Botts Partner Evan Young to Membership

AUSTIN, April 14, 2014 -- Baker Botts Litigation partner Evan Young has been elected as a new member of the American Law Institute (ALI). He is the eighth member of Baker Botts to receive this recognition, joining current and former firm partners Tom Phillips, David Kirkland, Bill Stutts, Macey Stokes and retired partners Charles Szalkowski, Martin Minsker and Tom Eubank as an ALI member.

This year the ALI elected 61 new members of outstanding judges, lawyers, and law professors from 26 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, along with two new international members from Australia and Singapore.

Young’s practice at Baker Botts focuses on trial, appellate and civil litigation. He represents clients across the country before every level of the state and federal judiciary, and has argued cases before both the Supreme Court of the United States and the Supreme Court of Texas.

Before joining Baker Botts, Young worked as a lawyer in the judicial and executive branches of the federal government. He served as a law clerk to Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and then to Justice Antonin Scalia at the U.S. Supreme Court.

The American Law Institute is the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law. The Institute drafts, discusses, revises, and publishes Restatements of the Law, model statutes, and principles of law that are enormously influential in the courts and legislatures, as well as in legal scholarship and education.
