BRUSSELS, December 20, 2012 -- The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) announced today the appointment of Baker Botts L.L.P. Partner Paul Lugard as Chair of the ICC Commission on Competition. Lugard is a partner in the firm’s recently opened Brussels office.
“I am honoured to be named Chair,” Lugard said in the ICC announcement of his appointment. “For many decades, the ICC Commission on Competition has had a solid track record in the field of competition and merger control law and policy. The Commission is ideally positioned to further advance the interests of its members in this critical area of the law.”
The ICC also announced Anne Riley, Associate General Counsel at Shell International, as a one of the Commission’s Vice-Chairs. Riley will work in close collaboration with existing Vice-Chair Michael Blechman, Special Counsel at Kaye Scholer.
The Commission on Competition acts as a reference and source of information for its members and individual companies. It has been recognized by antitrust agencies as a key partner and business organization. Members include more than 300 experts on competition law – legal advisors from industrial and commercial enterprises, and lawyers in private practice – from 40 countries.
Members of the Commission meet annually with senior representatives of the Directorate General for Competition (DG COMP) of the EU Commission, the US antitrust enforcement agencies and other agencies.
Lugard specializes in competition law at Baker Botts in Brussels. He has considerable experience in merger control proceedings, exclusionary conduct, distribution arrangements, technology licensing and matters on the intersection of intellectual property and antitrust law.
Baker Botts opened its Brussels office in September of this year and named Catriona Hatton, a highly-regarded European Union competition lawyer, as partner in charge of the office.
