DALLAS, June 14, 2011 -- In a recent posting to its web site, Texas Law360 editors asked Baker Botts L.L.P. Partner Van Beckwith to discuss his most challenging lawsuit, his trial preparation routine and other issues he has dealt with during his legal career.
Van’s response to the most challenging lawsuit question covered a string of cases for different clients. The first required a multi-year defense of cross-border, Canadian and U.S. class actions, followed by four mediation sessions. The second involved allegations of breach of contract and fraud in defense contract bidding in Thailand. The third was a “win” involving one of the first denials of class certification in one of the new wave of class actions involving allegations about the labeling of food and beverage products in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Preparing for trial starts in the earliest days of a case, Van said, because early in the case he and his clients “talk about their need to read, study, memorize and immerse themselves in the case and to think about the jury.”
The entire Q&A session with Law360 is available here.
Van Beckwith has a national trial practice focusing on complex business litigation, class action defense and food and beverage litigation.
