UK Legal 500 for 2006: Baker Botts Maintains Strength in Oil & Gas, Arbitration, M&A Smaller Groups

LONDON, September 15, 2006 -- Results of the UK Legal 500 Survey for 2006 provide hard evidence that Baker Botts maintains a strong presence in its core practice areas in its London office. In the Oil & Gas, Arbitration and M&A Smaller Groups categories, the firm is recommended in either Tier 3 or Tier 4. It is also one of only five firms recommended by the publication in the U.S. Firms in London category.

Comments about Baker Botts from Legal 500 researchers include:

  • Oil & Gas -- Baker Botts’ Tony Higginson and John White have acted for clients on North Sea field acquisitions and on gas sales agreements for purchases from Nigeria.
  • Arbitration -- At Baker Botts‘, Peter Griffin heads up the three-partner international arbitration group. Last year the firm advised on arbitrations seated in London, Paris, Chicago, Washington, D.C. and Zurich. 2005 was marked for the firm by massive growth in the number and size of cases from Russia and the CIS.
  • M&A Smaller Groups -- Baker Botts continues to advise major industrial clients...including advising a potential bidder of BP’s billion dollar Innovene Chemical business.
  • U.S. Firms in London -- Houston’s Baker Botts is best known for its oil and gas expertise and has three partners in London focusing on this area. It also has a growing London arbitration practice, with the Russian energy sector an area of particular focus.
