Implementing Decarbonization: The Role of Carbon Markets and Environmental Attributes

In collaboration with Energy Dialogues, Baker Botts will host an invitation only event on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 for an exclusive program organized to bring together energy thought leaders and companies involved in decarbonization for a lively, informative, and open discussion about the role of carbon markets and environmental attributes in supporting decarbonization.

The race to Net Zero continues and with it the ever-evolving efforts to accurately monitor and reduce emissions, including by development of carbon credits that incentivize decarbonization. This increased interest equates to an estimated $100 billion in demand for carbon credits by 2030, according to the Taskforce on Scaling Voluntary Carbon Markets.

Our Keynote Speakers and Panelists will discuss and demystify the following:

  • What are carbon markets (carbon offsets and insets)? How do they work and how are they developing?
  • What are Environmental Attributes and what is their value?
  • How are Environmental Attributes different from carbon offsets, and what might the market of the future look like?
  • What role will carbon registries play, and how will carbon credits be tracked and verified in the future?

Baker Botts Partner, Megan Berge will kick off the program with a fireside chat with Nikhil Ati, partner at McKinsey & Company and leader in decarbonization efforts, to set the table on decarbonization and discuss the current state of carbon markets and where they are headed.

Baker Botts Partner, Tom Holmberg will then lead a panel discussion with Aaron Lohmann, CEO, EarnDLT, Bill Bumpers, Winrock Honorary Director, American Carbon Registry, Dirk Forrister, IETA, and other Speakers to explore the current and future operations of carbon markets and the role of other environmental attributes.
