Baker Botts is partnering with World ECR to host a webinar discussing sanctions and the energy sector on Tuesday, 12 October.
During this webinar, Baker Botts' International Trade Practice lawyers, Chris Caulfield, Matthew West, and Brian Byrne, will address some of the most challenging U.S., EU, and UK sanctions compliance issues currently confronting the energy sector and will take a multijurisdictional and long-term approach to major ‘hot spots’ for energy companies including:
- Iran, in the context of potential relaxation of U.S. secondary sanctions;
- Russia (including the Nordstream2/Turkstream2 pipelines);
- Belarus, in the context of recent EU and UK sectoral sanctions targeting (among others) petroleum products; and
- Venezuela (and the Latin American region).
The webinar will explore the risk potential posed by various kinds of exposures such as joint ventures, choice of shipping route or refinery, and how sanctions can impact companies differently depending on their domicile and corporate structure. We will also pinpoint typical weak points in companies’ compliance programmes and suggest strategies for improvement.
The webinar will be of interest for compliance professionals working in the energy sector, consultants, banks, and insurance and shipping companies.
