Baker Botts Energy Lawyer School

Online Webinar

Baker Botts is delighted to invite you to our Energy Lawyer School commencing on the 16 March and finishing on 24 March 2021.

The school will be split into four 1.5 hour virtual sessions linked in their content as a pathway from pandemic-triggered impacts on traditional oil & gas projects and transactions, via an assessment of the availability and deployment of capital across traditional and emerging energy market sectors, through to the transitional opportunities and changes presented by energy transition, and, at the corporate level, in ESG.

The programme will provide an excellent opportunity for our clients and contacts who are in a legal or commercial position, and all those interested in the energy industry, to hear from experienced Baker Botts professionals who will share their insights and practical experience across these traditional and emerging energy sectors:

16 March - Session 1:
Managing the challenges of participation in upstream joint ventures (JVs) and in concluding upstream acquisitions in volatile oil price environments and in view of globally disruptive events such as the Pandemic. With a focus on force majeure, material adverse change and the approach to management of disputes arising from exiting JVs and transactions in consequence of these challenges.

Speakers: Hamish McArdle, Johannes Koepp and Dorine Farah

17 March - Session 2:
Financing energy transactions – Assessing the challenges and opportunities in view of Pandemic-led structural changes in access to finance for energy projects and transactions: from continued challenges for E&P financing, through to the stronger market for well-structured midstream and downstream fossil fuel projects and the now arguably mature market for renewable energy projects, and with a look-ahead to energy transition.

Speakers: Nick Collins, Lewis Jones and Martin Toulouse

23 March - Session 3:

Energy Transition – hydrogen, CCUS and green LNG. The session will consider the drivers and challenges for hydrogen, CCUS and ‘lower-carbon’, ‘carbon-neutral’ or ‘green’ LNG, three areas that have received increasing attention in recent years as the energy transition gathers pace.

Speakers: Rob Butler, Mark Rowley and Julie Mayo

24 March - Session 4 - Postponed - will update once new date has been confirmed
Environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and considerations in the energy sector.
