Baker Botts Energy Lunch: The Commission's Green Deal - an ambitious and radical agenda or too little too late?

On 11 December 2019, the European Commission launched the European Green Deal, with the aim of creating the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.

The new Green Deal is ambitious in many respects - most notably in its aim to co-ordinate a truly integrated approach in the battle against climate change for all major policy areas in which the EU is responsible. Its roll out will affect companies in many sectors doing business in the EU. But the criticism is already being levelled that it is too little too late. This critique comes not just from climate experts but also from within the EU itself.

The lunch will be an opportunity to debate these issues and to hear from Jean-Arnold Vinois, a Belgian lawyer and former DG Energy official who is now Adviser on the Energy Union at the Jacques Delors Institute in Paris and Berlin, as well as Dr. Leigh Hancher, Baker Botts Consultant, who focuses on European regulatory law in the energy sector and who will discuss the implications of the new Green deal for EU state aid control.
