This article provides a selective overview of EU competition law developments in the transport sector, covering (i) mergers, (ii) Article 101 TFEU, (iii) Article 102 TFEU, and (iv) State aid, during the year 2020 (and some related developments in early 2021 where appropriate).

2020 saw a number of distinctive developments in the transport sector, in particular the abandonment of several mergers following long-running investigations, and the maintenance of the Commission’s refusal to clear mergers in highly concentrated sectors on industrial policy grounds.
