Overview

Dr. Lu (Sophie) Yan is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice of the firm's New York office. Her practice encompasses a wide range of intellectual property matters, including patent litigation, IP due diligence as well as patent prosecution across various technology areas such as materials sciences, chemistry, and biotechnology. Dr. Yan brings a strong technical foundation to her legal practice, with a particular focus on complex technologies and innovations.

Dr. Yan has extensive research experience in materials sciences as well as chemical and biomolecular engineering. Her Ph.D.  research focuses on developing advanced materials with improved structural and physical properties for applications in the next generation lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells.

Dr. Yan first-authored a number of peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals, such as the Journal of American Chemical Society, in the field of materials sciences and chemistry during her Ph.D. research. Her scholarly work has been recognized for its innovation and impact, particularly in the areas of polymer materials for fuel cell membranes and energy storage technologies.

During law school, Dr. Yan served as a Notes and Articles Editor for the Fordham Journal of Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law.
