Overview

Caterina Romagnuolo is an Associate in our Antitrust and Competition Law practice in Brussels. Caterina has experience in advising clients in relation to alleged collusive behavior and abuse of dominance conducts, complex multi-jurisdictional mergers, foreign direct investment control as well as antitrust compliance issues. Caterina also advises clients in relation to EU anti-dumping proceedings and State aid law.

Caterina's experience spans upon a broad range of industries, including oil & gas, energy, chemicals, digital services and technology, media, life sciences and healthcare.

Prior to joining Baker Botts, Caterina worked at international law firms in Brussels and in the competition law practice of an Italian law firm. She also gained experience as a trainee at the European Commission, Directorate-General for Competition.

Caterina speaks Italian, English and Spanish.

Competition Law, Merger Control & Foreign Direct Investment

  • Advises and represents a U.S. private equity firm in several acquisitions across a broad range of sectors, securing merger control and foreign direct investment clearances from the competition authorities in the EU and the rest of the world.
  • Represented a U.S. orthopaedic company in the acquisition of a surgical implant maker, securing merger control and FDI clearances in several jurisdictions.
  • Represented a U.S. media and entertainment company in its acquisition of a global provider of official ticket, hospitality and travel experiences, securing merger control clearances in various jurisdictions.
  • Represented a U.S. chemical manufacturing company in the acquisition of a leading chemical manufacturer, securing merger control clearances in several jurisdictions.
  • Represented an oil and gas company on the establishment of a joint venture, securing national merger control clearances.
  • Advises a company on follow-on damages claim dispute regarding an abuse of dominant position. 
  • Advised clients in the context of requests for information to third parties by the European Commission in merger and antitrust investigations.
  • Advised clients on antitrust issues arising from the application of Articles 101 and 102 TFEU.
  • Advised a trade association in relation to the review of a block exemption regulation by the European Commission. 
  • Advised a client on the establishment of a joint venture in the natural gas infrastructures sector and the associated EU merger control clearance.*
  • Advised pharmaceutical and digital companies in the context of Articles 101 and 102 TFEU investigations by the European Commission and EU National Competition Authorities.*
  • Advised various companies on distribution agreements.*
  • Advised various companies in State aid disputes and notification of State aid measures to the European Commission.*

EU Trade Defence

  • Represents several EU manufacturers of household goods to secure an additional five years of anti-dumping duties on imports of Chinese-produced ironing boards.
  • Represented a chemical manufacturer and exporter in an EU anti-dumping investigation.
