Overview

Dina Jubrail is a special counsel in Baker Botts’ Antitrust & Competition group, leading the team based in our London office. Shortlisted for Rising Star at the British Legal Awards 2024, she specializes in competition law and regulation, with a particular focus on the digital, energy, transport and pharmaceutical sectors, bringing to bear experience gained in private practice, in both London and Brussels, and in-house for a large telecommunications company. She advises on a wide range of issues under the EU and UK competition law regimes, including merger control, foreign investment review, antitrust counselling, competition law investigations and appeals, and competition litigation, including the UK’s rapidly expanding class action regime.

In transactional matters, Ms. Jubrail has extensive experience helping clients navigate the increasingly challenging global antitrust environment.

In competition law matters, Ms. Jubrail has represented clients before the European Commission, CMA, EU national authorities and Ofcom in abuse of dominance investigations, investigations into alleged collusive behaviour, market studies and regulatory market reviews.

Ms. Jubrail has also represented clients in high profile cases before the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal (“CAT”), General Court and Court of Justice of the EU.  Notably, in the UK, Ms. Jubrail is representing Wallenius Wilhelmsen and EUKOR Car Carriers on a class action in the CAT, and has also advised on a related appeal in the Court of Appeal on precedent-setting issues relating to the UK's class action regime. Ms. Jubrail also represented a major technology company in abuse of dominance litigation, and several European Transmission System Operators (TSOs) in cases challenging decisions of the European Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER).

Mergers & Acquisitions

  • A multinational technology giant in coordinating the international merger clearance process for a strategically important acquisition, obtaining unconditional phase 1 clearance in the EU
  • One of Denmark’s largest conglomerates in coordinating the international merger and FDI clearance processes for several multi-billion-dollar acquisitions
  • Obtaining unconditional phase 1 EU merger clearance for DFDS in its acquisition of HSF Logistics
  • Obtaining EU, Chinese, Chile, Ukrainian and Turkish merger clearances for APM Terminals on its joint venture with Bolloré for the operation of a container terminal in Ivory Coast
  • Advising a third-party broadcaster on its comments to the European Commission regarding Vodafone's acquisition of certain German cable assets from Liberty Global
  • Advising a client in the media sector on a public interest investigation in the UK

  • Wallenius Wilhelmsen and EUKOR Car Carriers on a class action brought by Mark McLaren Class Representative in the UK's specialist competition court, the Competition Appeal Tribunal, and a related appeal in the Court of Appeal on precedent-setting issues relating to the UK's class action regime
  • Wallenius Wilhelmsen and EUKOR Car Carriers in defending a multimillion pound damages brought by Jaguar Land Rover in the UK's specialist competition court, the Competition Appeal Tribunal
  • DFDS, one of northern Europe’s biggest ferry operators in the parallel investigations by the UK's CMA and the French competition authority into a capacity sharing agreement with P&O on the Dover-Calais route
