Overview

Giles Ashman is a special counsel based in Singapore. He advises on the development, financing, acquisition and disposal of energy and infrastructure projects and assets. He represents clients including sponsors, investors, financiers, contractors, government bodies and multilaterals.

Giles has been based in Asia since 2007, including secondments to Korea Eximbank in Seoul and Asian Development Bank in Manila. He has worked on transactions across Asia-Pacific, including in Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Uzbekistan, and Australia. He has also worked on transactions in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and South America.

LNG, Oil & Gas and Process Infrastructure Development

  • Genting Energy on the development of the Kasuri floating LNG liquefaction project in Indonesia, including EPCIC arrangements for the FLNG vessel and midstream infrastructure.
  • Air Liquide and Fluxys on the development of the Antwerp@C CO2 liquefaction project in Belgium.
  • LNG Japan on its US$1 billion acquisition of a participating interest in the Scarborough offshore gas field from Woodside.
  • Hengyi Industries on all aspects of the development of its $13 billion petrochemicals project in Brunei.
  • A bidder in relation to the development of Tanks 5 and 6 for the Singapore LNG project.*
  • Altera Infrastructure in relation to FPSO arrangements for the Dorado oil and gas field offshore Western Australia.*
  • First Gen Corporation in relation to the development of the Batangas LNG regasification project in the Philippines.*
  • Brunei Methanol Company on the development, financing and ongoing operation of its methanol project in Brunei.*
  • The ECA Coordinators (JBIC, KEXIM and NEXI) on the financing of the Donggi-Senoro LNG liquefaction project in Indonesia.*

Power & Renewables

  • The financiers on all aspects of the limited project financing of the development of a 100 MW AC solar power project in Bangladesh.
  • JBIC, NEXI, and commercial lenders on the financing of the 1600 MW Syrdarya 2 CCGT IPP in Uzbekistan being developed by EDF, Nebras and Sojitz.*
  • Vena Energy in relation to the development of 5 wind farm power projects in the Philippines.*
  • Asian Development Bank on the financing of an 80 MW solar power project in India.*
  • CDC Group Plc, Habib Bank Limited and Faysal Bank Limited on the financing of the 50 MW Indus Wind project, the 50 MW Liberty 1 Wind project and the 50 MW Liberty 2 Wind project in Pakistan.*
  • The Lenders on the financing of the 1320 MW Chittagong IPP project in Bangladesh.*
  • The Sponsors in relation to the development of an LNG to power project in Sri Lanka.*

  • The Governments of Malaysia and Singapore on the structuring and procurement of the Kuala Lumpur to Singapore High Speed Rail Project.*

  • The Lenders to Tuaspring Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of Hyflux Ltd, on the financing of the Tuas Desalination Project in Singapore.*
