1L IP Legal Intern Program

A global law firm with a distinguished heritage, Baker Botts is a leader in the field of Intellectual Property law. With over 165 lawyers and patent professionals — who together hold 200 technical degrees — Baker Botts’ Intellectual Property legal team offers the strength and depth needed to provide sophisticated advice and counseling on a truly international scale.

Together with Abbott, the Baker Botts IP Legal Intern program will provide a talented first-year law student the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a large, global law firm and in the legal department of one of the top medical device and healthcare companies. The IP Legal Intern will spend time in the Baker Botts New York office, followed by time with Abbott in Alameda, CA. Students will receive a stipend and all travel expenses incurred during the time at Baker Botts will be covered.

Selection Criteria

  • Academic Achievement
  • Demonstrated Leadership Attributes
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term career in Intellectual Property Law
  • Technical Background or Experience, Including a Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology, or Physics, and Commitment to Pursuing a Career in Intellectual Property Law
  • Patent Bar Eligibility (preferred)
